The sun has started to come out again- encouraging impromptu BBQ's & walks to happy hour with our friends. Did we mention the amazing weddings of some of our dearest friends? Both weddings were absolutely gorgeous and such a blast!

1-Year Anniversary!

Here's a pic of the Trumpeter Inn that we stayed at.
Wow... we just celebrated our 1-Year Anniversary on Sunday the 14th and are still amazed at how quickly time has flown by!

To celebrate, we decided to take a ferry over to Friday Harbor and stay at the Trumpeter Inn Bed & Breakfast. We were generously given a night's stay at the B&B from our friends Kevin, Tyson, and Dave for a wedding present last year. We figured what better time to use this great gift than to celebrate our 1-Year Anniversary!

So after church we headed up to Anacortes and hopped on the ferry to Friday Harbor. Kyle and I, being the nerds that we are- played cribbage the entire ferry ride while Kyle snuck a peak at any map of the islands he could get his hands on. :)

Did we mention yet that the weather was PERFECT? A beautiful sunny weekend- we couldn't have asked for better weather.

We got to the B&B, dropped our stuff off in the room and proceded to explore the grounds and relax for a bit on the amazing hammock. We need to get one of those asap. :) It was a great, relaxing beginning to our trip.

The lighthouse with the sun setting in the background.

Then we got out our 1-year old wedding cake and brought it out to our private balcony to share. We sampled a little of the cake and have to say that it was a fun tradition-- but that the cake loses a little something after a year we think... ;)

Next up, we (ok- mostly Kyle) pined over a few more maps to figure out where to begin our adventure and we decided to head over to Roche Harbor for a delicious dinner at McMillin's. Great food and an even better view from our table that overlooked the harbor. After dinner, we drove over to this lighthouse just in time to catch a beautiful sunset. We had made the brilliant decision to bring the picnic backpack that the Burdicks had given to us for a wedding present, which ended up being a perfect. We laid out our blanket and poured ourselves some wine to stay awhile and marvel at the beautiful evening. And did we mention that our B&B had a hot tub? We fully took advantage of the empty hot tub when we got back to the B&B and shared a little vino while looking up at the stars. Great and relaxing way to end the evening!

The next day we woke up to a delicious breakfast of fruit, eggs, and breakfast potatoes made by our B&B host and we met and chatted with some of the other guests. Kyle made a new best friend, like usual. ;) Just kidding, but we did meet a nice couple with similar interests and had a nice conversation over breakfast. After breakfast we checked out and explored the island, driving around and stopping off at various beaches and lighthouses along the way. We had a great time looking out at the water, skipping rocks, and enjoying the sunshine! Then we headed back into town for some yummy chowder and salad and shopped around a bit before hopping back on the ferry to head home.

All in all, what a wonderful way to end our first year of marriage/ start our second year! Looking forward to many more adventures to come in year two!

Oregon Business Trip & Vacation!

After a long blogging hiatus, we thought we'd skip ahead to our most recent adventure...

What fun weekend we just had!

This past weekend we headed down to Tualitin, Oregon for a business trip to look at a dental equipment and cabinetry manufacturer called A-dec and check out what they had to offer.  When we were invited to go visit the facility they called it a VIP trip and we didn't think much of it at the time, but they really spoiled us over the 3 days and 2 nights we were there.  Welcome to the business world, I guess.  We had a great time, learned about a great dental equipment supplier, and got to stay in a beautiful hotel by the water.   Here's a picture of us in front of the hotel that they put us up in.

After the business portion of our trip, we headed down to visit our friends Brittany and Taylor at their house in Albany, OR.  Taylor is a police officer in nearby Corvallis, so we headed over there for the day, walked along the Willamette River, did some shopping, visited an art show, saw Oregon State University's campus, and ate dinner at the Block 15 Brewery.  Here are some pictures of us in front of a fountain at a riverside park

On our way home from Brittany & Taylor's house, we decided to stop by the Willamette Valley Vineyard and do a little bit of wine tasting.  For anyone who hasn't tried it- they have the BEST Riesling!  Yumm... we bought a few bottles, took some pictures of the incredible view from their tasting room, and hit the road again.

Next up... a few hour pit stop at the Clark County Fair, where we played some games, won an awesome prize (not really- it was a black velvet pilow that said "Vegas" on it), looked at some smelly farm animals, and tried our luck at the fast pitch contest.  Kelly set the record for her age group by throwing the fastest pitch of the day.  Please note she tied with an 11 year old, pretty impressive :)

It was starting to get late and we still had almost 3 hours of driving left, so we scarfed some delicious County Fair bbq sandwich and curly fries and got back on the road.  After coming to a complete stop at three separate car accidents, which significantly extended our remaining "3 hour drive" on the way home, we rolled in about 10 pm and hopped in bed.

All in all, we had a blast exploring Oregon, seeing good friends, and having some random adventures on our leisurely drive home.  All that fun and we never even hit up Portland!  Oh well, maybe next time.

Christmas!!!

This Christmas was one to remember. It all began with a trip to the outskirts of Issaquah to fetch our first Christmas Tree! We stopped by Target on the way home and got all the fixins to decorate our apartment festively. Once our place was all set up, the rest of the Christmas season was full of relaxation and time spent with family. With Kyle's dental offices closed and Kelly's school out for the holidays, we were able to visit both the Blairs and Ginneys.
We headed down to Kelly's parents' house in Rocklin, CA and spent the days leading up to Christmas relaxing and seeing friends, including a great lunch with Taylor and Brittney Lawrence. It's always fun catching up with them and as usual, we had lots of laughs. Then came Christmas Eve, which always means Cioppino night, a Ginney family tradition. Kyle learned a few tricks from Dave while he whipped up his seafood stew masterpiece. Then we opened presents:) Christmas day we went to see a movie and then headed over to the Rahimis for a nice Christmas dinner followed by a few games of XBox Kinect Adventures. After we were all tuckered out from jumping around all evening, it was back home to the Ginney's house to get some rest for a long drive up to Tahoe the next day. The Ginney family shares a cabin with all Kelly's uncles and we were fortunate enough to be able to spend two days and a night up in the mountains playing in the snow and relaxing in front of a roaring fire. Our second day in the mountains we wandered around Tahoe City before heading back down to Rocklin and spent our last night in California during the holidays.
The next morning we said our goodbyes and headed off to the airport where we got a nice little surprise. Our flight home was overbooked, so they were looking for volunteers to give up their seats. I walked up to the counter, asked what the deal was, and wouldn't you know it, we were offered $300 a piece in flight vouchers and were bumped up to First Class on a later flight to Seattle. The best part: all we had to do was wait 1 extra hour at the airport! We were pretty stoked.
After a couple days relaxing at our apartment in Kirkland, we drove over to Sun Cove to visit Kyle's parents in Orondo, WA for New Years. When we arrived, we ate dinner, opened presents, and visited with Scott, Leslie, and Kendall, who was home from medical school for the holidays. Our time was filled with nice walks, board games, and good meals. For New Years' Eve, Karen and Paul Dobrasz came over and we played games until midnight struck and we watched the Space Needle fireworks on TV. After a little more time with the family, we headed back to Kirkland to get ready to go back to school and work.

The holidays were wonderful. We love our family and friends and the holidays give us a lot of time to spend with both. Thanks to everyone for being so hospitable and making us feel at home. We love you guys!

Our Newest Toy

With winter quickly approaching and an expected severity not seen in the last 100 years in this part of the country, Kelly and I decided it was finally time to part ways with her beloved Convertible V6 Mustang. We had been researching compact SUV's for the last several weeks and just could not come up with a vehicle that we both loved, so the decision was not quickly made. However, this weekend we saw an ad for a 2011 Ford Escape 4x4 at quite a good price, so we went and took a peek. It turned out that one was a manual transmission, which wouldn't work so well for Kelly, so we looked at the Escape on the showroom floor. Sun/Moonroof, Sync Audio System, All-wheel drive, V6 engine with 6800 lbs. towing capacity (insert Tim Allen grunt), and enough safety features to keep my wife as far out of danger as possible. Done deal. The first vehicle that Kelly and I were both super stoked about. We drove that thing home with huge grins on our faces and McDonalds in our bellies (we were starved after a 6 hour test driving and negotiating process). I spent a few hours watching the Huskies prove how terrible they are (41-0 to Stanford at home, I hate those smart kids), and Kelly wrote a paper for school. We didn't make it more than a couple hours before we both hopped in the Escape and went for a late night ice cream run so we could play with the Sync Audio system some more. It's very awesome, very confusing, and very fun. Around 11pm we realized that we never carved our pumpkins. Whoops. No problem, we didn't get a single trick or treater anyway. I'm beginning to think we'll never get rid of the leftover candy from the candy bar at our wedding. Oh well. If you want to go for a spin, we are looking for any excuse to take our new toy out. I call driving!

Our new place...

Hey guys! First of all, I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who came to our California reception! It turned out perfectly (mostly thanks to my momma for putting so much hard work into planning it)! We were able to catch up with friends, family, neighbors (many of whom we hadn't seen in years)! It meant so much to us to have you there and we couldn't have imagined a better day!

So.... many of you have been inquiring about our new place. And I thought it was about time that we told you more about it! So we live in a cute 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom apartment in Kirkland that we absolutely love. We are by no means finished decorating... but here a few pics to get a feel for where we live. But if you just cant get a proper feel for it via photos.... feel free to come up here and visit!!! :) We have a spare bedroom.... just saying. Anyhoo... here are the pics...

And it begins...

So I guess it's finally about time to give this blog thing a try! ;) Kyle and I just celebrated our one-month-a-versary of being married yesterday, and I have to say- it has been the best month of my life. We had such a great time at our wedding and were so blessed to be surrounded by so many loved ones supporting us and cheering us on. Everyone's love and kindness did not go unnoticed, and we just wish that we could have spent more time with everyone there! My favorite highlights: the father/son dance, Grandma Alice's speech, Kyle and my "first look", spending time with my bridesmaids, catching up with friends & family, FINALLY marrying the man of my dreams!!!

Also- our honeymoon was amazing!!! We went to Mazatlan where we stayed at El Cid El Moro. Our room was the corner room on the 23rd floor overlooking the ocean, beach, and sunset. It was so amazing to have breakfast on our balcony every morning and watch the sunset together every night!! That was probably my favorite part of the trip! Kyle also got to try parasailing for the first time-- which he absolutely loved!! He loved it so much actually, that he forgot to pull down on the chute to land and they had to take him for another lap around so that he could land on the beach where he was supposed to. The guy was cool with it though and said I guess today you get the two-for-one deal! We also got to go on a catamaran to Deer Island with free food and drinks all day! There we went snorkling, went on a banana boat and hung out with our new friends Kyle & Erin that we met on the trip. They were also from the Seattle area, got married on the same day as us, and were staying in the same hotel as us. Small world! We also went with Kyle & Erin to explore downtown Mazatlan and have dinner in Moschato Square where we tried the local food and enjoyed the amazing atmosphere which included live music playing from the park. Soo much fun!! Another night we decided to try out one of the fancy restaurants at our time share and ordered Filet Mignon, Lobster, Shrimp, Mahi Mahi, veggies, baked potatoes and wine... MMMMmmmmmm.... it was SO delicious! Hey, go big or go home right?!? We had such a great time in Mazatlan and felt that a week was the perfect amount of time!

Since we got back we have been setting up house, working, going for walks, exploring the town, and just having fun spending time with friends!! It has been an amazing first month of marriage and we are looking forward to many many more to come!! :)
